- AODDJ Conductivity Electrode
I. Measurement Principle
The instrument measures the conductivity of a medium by determining the AC impedance between the central electrode and the peripheral electrodes. Selecting an electrode with an appropriate cell constant, based on the expected conductivity range of the water sample, is crucial for accurate measurement. In particular, when measuring ultrapure water (conductivity < 1 μS/cm) or deionized water (conductivity < 3 μS/cm), it is essential to use electrodes with cell constants of 0.1 or 0.01, and, if necessary, employ a sealed measurement cell to ensure precision; otherwise, significant measurement errors may arise. The fundamental principle for electrode selection is as follows: choose an electrode with a suitable cell constant according to the anticipated conductivity range of the sample, referring to the table provided. A common mistake in electrode selection is using an electrode with a high cell constant to measure low-conductivity samples. For example, employing a 1.0‑cell‑constant electrode to measure water with a conductivity below 3 μS/cm will not yield accurate results. This is because low‑conductivity media exhibit very poor electrical conductivity; using a high‑cell‑constant electrode under such conditions produces an extremely weak and unstable signal, thereby substantially increasing measurement error.
