In a certain city in southern China, rainfall during the flood season is concentrated, often causing road flooding that leads to traffic disruptions and endangers pedestrians. Traditional monitoring methods, however, generally suffer from drawbacks such as delayed responses and gaps in data transmission. Recently, Aotai Automation Equipment Co., Ltd. completed the local installation of its buried-type road water level sensors and self-powered signal concentrators, establishing an all-weather, high-precision water accumulation monitoring system.

The underground road water level sensor features an integrated, sealed design. Its underground installation does not require any damage to the road surface, and its IP68 protection rating ensures it can withstand prolonged immersion in water and erosion from mud and sand. The device is equipped with dual-mode sensors—ultrasonic and conductivity—that can accurately detect water level changes ranging from 0 to 3 meters, with a measurement resolution as fine as 0.001 meters. Data collection is automatically performed every 5 minutes. A built-in high-capacity battery provides up to 7 years of long-lasting operation, completely eliminating the maintenance challenge of frequent battery replacements associated with conventional devices.

The accompanying self-powered signal concentrator adopts a dual-power supply mode of “solar energy plus backup battery,” ensuring stable operation even on remote road sections without access to mains electricity. It wirelessly receives data from nearby water-level sensors via radio frequency, aggregates and verifies the data, and then uploads it in real time to the city’s flood-control platform through a dedicated 4G network, thereby precisely addressing the core challenges of traditional monitoring systems—namely, “dispersed data and frequent transmission interruptions.”

This equipment fills the gap in monitoring low-lying road sections, providing traffic management authorities with timely warnings of water accumulation and guidance for traffic diversion. It also offers precise data support for the scheduling of drainage systems, effectively enhancing the city’s emergency response capabilities during the flood season and firmly safeguarding the travel safety of citizens.
