In response to the region’s rainy climate, concentrated flood season, and urban road flooding, a city in southern China has successfully completed the on-site installation and commissioning of a batch of smart manhole cover alarms, comprehensively upgrading its municipal stormwater and sewage network monitoring system and addressing the shortcomings of traditional manual inspections—namely, slow response times and untimely identification of potential hazards.
In southern cities, heavy rainfall during the flood season occurs frequently. Rapid rises in water levels within drainage networks can lead to hazards such as manhole cover uplift, displacement, and loss, easily causing road flooding, pedestrian falls, and vehicle‑related accidents, thereby placing significant pressure on municipal drainage management. The manhole‑cover alarms deployed this time are designed to operate reliably in complex, damp underground conditions; they are easy to install and simple to commission, enabling precise monitoring of cover tilt, displacement, and abnormal opening, while also providing linked monitoring of changes in underground water levels.
Leveraging robust wireless transmission technology, the device enables 24/7 continuous data collection. Upon detecting abnormal operating conditions, it automatically triggers remote alerts and instantly transmits them to the municipal control platform, helping operations and maintenance personnel precisely pinpoint potential hazards and swiftly carry out drainage‑related repairs and on‑site response. This solution effectively provides early warning and dynamic monitoring of risks in the drainage network, significantly enhancing urban flood‑prevention and drainage capabilities as well as the efficiency of municipal infrastructure maintenance, thereby establishing a smart safeguard for road safety and the stable operation of the city’s drainage system.
