Subsurface water‑accumulation sensing strengthens flood‑prevention defenses, while integrated water‑system scheduling enables rapid emergency response.

2026-07-16

To address the shortcomings in monitoring urban areas prone to flooding, underground pavement water‑level sensors have been extensively deployed along low‑lying road segments, underpasses, and other aging locations susceptible to water accumulation, serving as invisible sentinel devices for urban flood prevention. These sensors continuously and accurately collect real-time data on pavement water depth, transmitting it without interruption to the central control platform.

The device features an underground, concealed installation that does not encroach on road surface space. Its IP68‑rated, highly robust housing withstands prolonged vehicle traffic and exposure to rainwater, making it well suited to the complex road conditions found in urban areas. Its ultra‑low‑power design enables long‑term, maintenance‑free operation. Monitoring data is directly integrated into the city’s comprehensive water‑system dispatch system, enabling seamless synchronization and interconnected operation between front‑end sensing and the back‑end dispatch platform.

Once water accumulation on road surfaces reaches the preset alert threshold, the system immediately triggers multi-level warning notifications and promptly pushes them to relevant personnel in water management and emergency response agencies. The dispatch center can, based on the citywide heat map of waterlogging, coordinate the activation of drainage pump stations, deploy clearing teams, and precisely assign staff to flood‑prone locations to carry out emergency operations such as pumping and sediment removal, as well as traffic diversion.

This equipment overcomes the limitations of traditional manual inspections—namely, their limited coverage and delayed detection of potential hazards—by establishing a closed-loop flood‑control system that integrates monitoring, early warning, dispatch, and response. It significantly reduces the response time for addressing waterlogging, effectively mitigates urban flooding risks, and ensures the safe travel of citizens while maintaining the stable operation of the city’s drainage network.
